Alphabet animals

Materials You Need: None.

What You Can Do Together: To begin the game, the first player names any animal of their choice. The next player must then say a different animal beginning with the last letter of the previous animal. For example, the game could go as follows: giraffe, elephant, tiger, rhinoceros…

If a player can’t think of an animal within one minute (or the agreed time frame), they are out of the game!

Alternatively, players could work their way through the alphabet, seeing how many animals they can name for each letter. For a competitive game, award one point to whoever can name (or write down) the most animals for each letter. Whoever has the most points by the end of the alphabet wins!

Once you’ve enjoyed alphabet animals, why not try other topics, too? Following the same rules, you could play alphabet countries, towns, food or whatever takes your fancy!

What Your Child is Learning: This simple word game helps children to improve their spelling and vocabulary, as well as expand their knowledge of the animal kingdom. What’s more, it can provide hours of fun on long journeys!
