Blowing
Materials You Need: None
What You Can Do Together: Babies must have sensory experiences in order to learn about their environment and their own body. With this activity, you will help your baby develop an awareness of their different body parts.
To start, you should hold your baby or lay her/him down on a soft surface and sit next to her/him. Then, blow gently on the palms of her hands. While you are blowing, repeat the following phrase in a sing-song tone: "Here are the baby palms." You can say her/his name instead of "baby." After blowing, you can kiss the palms of her/his tiny hands.
Adjust the activity by blowing on different parts of his/her body, changing the body part's name in the phrase you recite. Remember to kiss each part of the body after its name.
You can blow on your babies’ hands, feet, elbows, neck, cheeks, and toes.
Remember that your baby is very delicate, so you should blow gently and avoid blowing with saliva.
What Your Child is Learning: Positive sensory experiences and social interaction with adults improve babies' cognitive abilities, bonding and self-awareness.
