Family Songs

Materials You Need: None

What You Can Do Together: You have probably been singing to/with your child since he was a baby. Now your child may enjoy learning to sing some of your favourites. To begin, sing one of the simple, familiar songs your child knows well. Encourage your child to sing part of the song with you. Perhaps the song has a chorus or simple repeating line. You can also stop singing that line and let your child fill in the missing words. The whole family can join in for a wonderful time together. You may notice your child singing parts of these songs on his own, while playing or perhaps as your child is falling asleep.

What Your Child is Learning: This kind of activity builds your child’s memory and thinking skills. He may also be learning new words from the songs you sing together.
