How to prevent traffic injuries - a child as a pedestrian
Children in the role of pedestrians are a particularly vulnerable category of traffic participants. Whether due to inadequate road infrastructure, poor signage or other persons' negligence — children pedestrians require special attention from their parents.
Body
- When moving along a road with a child, hold the child firmly by the hand and explain to him/her the traffic situations when prerequisites are in place for the child to understand them.
- Teach the child the most important rules:
- that the sidewalk is the safest place to move,
- to never run out into the street after a friend, a ball or some other toy,
- to cross the roadway only at the marked pedestrian crossing,
- to never run across a pedestrian crossing,
- to be careful even at a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights — to listen and observe traffic, on all sides, even though the green light is on for pedestrians,
- to adopt the rule of crossing the roadway — stop, wait, look left, right, then left again, listen and go,
- not to play in the parking lot and in the street,
- not to cross the street between parked vehicles.
- When you wait for the child in front of a kindergarten, never do it across the street.
- For the child's better visibility on the road, wearing bright-colored or fluorescent clothing is recommended during the day; in case of reduced visibility and during the night, wearing reflective signs on clothes, backpack or shoes is recommended.
- No matter how big a hurry you may be in, if you are with a child, never commit traffic violations — do not cross the street outside the pedestrian crossing and the like, because by doing so, you risk both your lives!
