Knocking the tower down
Materials You Need: Small boxes; egg carton pieces; pillows; yogurt containers; wooden blocks
What You Can Do Together: Before starting we must prepare the space where the activity will take place. You can do it on the floor of a quiet room.
Sit your little one on the floor and sit in front of her/him, making sure the objects of your choice are close at hand. Build a tower in front of your little one using the materials and tell them, "Look, a tower!"
Next, knock the tower over and clap and celebrate the action. Your little one will understand that it is a game. Ask your little one to pass you the materials and build another tower.
This time, ask your little one to knock the tower down. You may have to take her/his hand and show them how to do it the first time. Repeat the game until your little one shows fatigue or loss of interest.
Make sure the activity remains safe by not building the tower too high and only use materials that are not too hard or dense. Plan to make towers of 5 objects.
Your little one may be scared by the sound of falling objects, so it is recommended to laugh, clap and celebrate in each repetition to show calmness and joy.
What Your Child is Learning: Helping your little one to do this activity offers her/him a world of countless opportunities to explore objects in different ways and to strengthen her/his arm muscles and coordination of movements as they build and knock the tower down.
