Learning to sit up

Materials You Need: Pillows

What You Can Do Together: When preparing the space where you will work with your little one, remember that you must create a comfortable environment. You can put your child on a rug, a soft blanket or on the bed.

Lay your little one on his stomach next to some pillows, massage his back to stimulate her/him, then turn her/him over and massage her/his shoulders. Then sit her/him on a pillow. You can show her/him a balloon or flashy object or sing them a song to get their attention. After a few minutes, put her/him down to let her/him rest and then sit her/him down again, but this time place two pillows behind their back so that they experience a straighter position when sitting up. Next, help her/him sit for a few seconds without the support of the pillows on their back, then let him/her rest.

Repeat this activity two to three times.

What Your Child is Learning: With this activity, your little one will strengthen their back muscles starting with the sitting position. The objective of this activity is to maintain a sitting posture without assistance or support for more than a few seconds.
