Make Alien Eggs
Materials You Need: Hard boiled eggs (cooled), teaspoon, ziplock bags, food colouring, kitchen roll.
What You Can Do Together: Transform snack time into craft time by making an ordinary egg extraordinarily alien!
To proceed with this activity, undertake the following steps:
- Make cracks in the shells of your hard-boiled eggs by hitting them firmly with a spoon on all sides.
- Put each egg in a separate zip lock bag and sprinkle over a few drops of food colouring. Then fasten the bags and gently move the eggs around so that the shell surface is covered with the food colouring. You’ll probably need to leave the eggs soaking in the colour for about ten minutes, although pale colours may need longer.
- Remove from the bags, using some kitchen roll to remove excess food colouring from the shells. Leave them to dry. Gently peel off the eggshell to reveal the out-of-this-world patterns! Now you can gobble up your alien eggs. Don’t worry – they don’t taste as weird as they look!
What Your Child is Learning: Kids will love the ‘reveal’ aspect of this craft, which engages the imagination and gets them eating healthy protein!
