The Piggies
Materials You Need: None
What You Can Do Together: Begin the activity by talking to your little one to get her/his attention. While doing this, recite the "The Little Pigs" rhyme using your little one's fingers. You can say the rhyme and move their fingers as indicated. Observe during and after the game how your little one begins to move her/his fingers voluntarily:
This little piggy went to the market. (Move the thumb)
This little piggy stayed home. (Move the index finger)
This little piggy ate roast beef. (Move the middle finger)
This little pig had none. (Move the ring finger)
And this little pig cried, “Wee! Wee! Wee!” All the way home! (Move all fingers one by one).
Remember that all your movements must be delicate and that you must remain calm around your little one.
What Your Child is Learning: This activity will help your baby become aware of the existence and control of their fingers and hands. They will begin to develop control of the small muscles in their hands and reinforce positive interactions with you with this cute activity.
