Playing With the Senses

Materials You Need:  Objects of various soft fabrics: silk, wool, towel, feathers, etc. Objects of various smells: flowers, oranges, soft perfumes, etc. Nature sounds.

What You Can Do Together: Exposing your baby to various stimuli will expand their knowledge of her-/himself and the world around them. With this activity, it is easy to expose your baby to sensory stimuli during free moments throughout the day.

If you are at home, use different clothes or objects with different textures. Rub her/his arms, legs, and tummy gently with the tissues and watch the reaction of your baby. If it's positive, you can keep trying different textures one at a time.

Don't overwhelm your baby with sensations as you can tire them out.

Another way to expose her/him to sensory stimuli is to go out to the garden or park, let her/him see and smell the flowers and plants that you find.

Only use healthy and safe objects and textures with your baby when completing this activity.

What Your Child is Learning: Exposing your baby to various sensory experiences helps your child to form connections in the brain that allow her/him to know and understand the environment around them.
