Burns in children and how to prevent them - general measures
Thinking about the safety aspects of heat sources, electrical devices and installations is an important prerequisite for preventing burns and other serious injuries.

Make your home safe
- Power sockets should have appropriate safety covers to prevent children from sticking their fingers or various objects into them (they are available in electrical supplies stores).
- Place special protective shields on open heat sources (electrical heaters, fireplace, etc.).
- Remove and lock all chemicals (cleaning agents, etc.) out of the reach of children - in addition to being toxic, they can cause severe burns to the skin and eyes.
- Matches, lighters and other items for lighting fires must be kept out of the reach of children.
Protect your home from fire
- Install and maintain smoke detectors - on each floor and in all bedrooms. Test them once a month to make sure they are in working order. If possible, use long-lasting batteries.
- Regularly check whether electrical installations and heating devices in your home are in working order.
- Insulate each wire.
- Before leaving the home, make sure that you have switched off the stove/iron/other electrical appliances.
- Keep curtains and other flammable objects away from heat sources.
- Keep a fire extinguisher in working order in the house/apartment.
- Make an evacuation plan in case of fire and involve the children in planning, because that way they will best learn what they need to do. Talk to the children about the sequence of steps to be taken in case of fire.
Teach children that the NUMBER OF FIRE SERVICE is 193!
