A child as a passenger in a vehicle
Observance of regulations relating to children when transporting them by motor vehicles, as well as practicing safe and secure driving, are the basic principles of the safety of children as passengers in motor vehicles.
Body
- A child under 12 years of age may not ride in the front seat of a motor vehicle.
- A child under three years of age may ride in the front seat, if transported in a rear-facing child safety seat/infant carrier, provided that the vehicle does not have a safety airbag or it is off.
- A child under three years of age is transported in a safety car seat/infant carrier, except in public passenger transport vehicles.
- The child is not safe in the arms of an adult.
- The child is not safe if restrained with an adult seatbelt, and does not have sufficient height or weight. Due to improper use, in the event of a collision, the protective seatbelt can inflict additional injuries to the child.
- The child can be restrained with a seat belt without using a car seat when he/she reaches the weight of 36 kg or the height of 150 cm.
In order for car seats to provide adequate protection, three conditions must be fulfilled:
- the car seat corresponds to the child's weight and meets the safety standard,
- the car seat is correctly installed in the car,
- the child is properly restrained in the car seat.
