Dental care for young children
Brushing your child's teeth twice a day with a toothbrush and low-fluoride toothpaste and avoiding sweetened foods and drinks will prevent tooth decay. Children need help and supervision in regular oral and dental hygiene. Take your child to the dentist regularly, once to twice a year.

- Children should brush their teeth regularly, with a toothbrush and low-fluoride toothpaste.
- Teeth are brushed twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Use a small, pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
- At some point, your child will want to participate in brushing his/her teeth, which should be allowed and supported. But, he/she will not be able to brush the back teeth well and will still need your help.
- Show him/her how to floss between the teeth.
- Encourage your child to rinse his/her mouth with water after a meal to wash away leftover food.

- Avoid offering him/her sugary drinks and sweetened foods,
- When he/she is thirsty, let him/her drink water only, and when you give him/her juice, let it be as part of a meal and made of fresh fruit.
