Healthy diet for the whole family
All food outside the home is much more expensive. A meal you prepare for your child at home is not only cheaper, but also much better than fast food from a kiosk or bakery.
Body
- Shop in larger stores, buy larger packages, groceries on sale; limit chips, sweets, drinks.
- Plan your procurement in advance if possible. Buy plenty of rice and dough.
- Use seasonal fruits and vegetables, which are cheaper and often of better quality than imported ones.
- Frozen vegetables and fish have the same nutritional value as fresh ones, but they are cheaper.
- Consider what the household can produce itself (garden for growing seasonal vegetables, wild foods, egg-laying poultry).
- Prepare winter preserves from low-priced seasonal foods.
Everyday efforts and struggles to provide good food for the family (providing the money, growing vegetables, poultry, etc., what food to buy, whether it is good and healthy, what and how to prepare - peel, chop, stir, cook..., whether the meal will please the family, whether the children will eat it, how to protect food from spoilage, insects, rodents, washing dishes in poor housing conditions) are tedious and exhausting for women in the family. Awareness of how important this job is for the health of the whole family, and especially children, encourages women and gives them new energy and creativity in the endless daily work of feeding the family.
