How to choose a stroller for a baby

When choosing a stroller, parents are often faced with a dilemma; in addition to the aesthetic criteria, the stroller should be light and practical.
Body

Choose a stroller according to the environment (whether you live in an apartment building or a house, whether you have an elevator), lifestyle (conditions in which you plan to use them - pavement, grass, cobblestones, sand), living conditions (small elevator in the building, you live on 4th floor, one-bedroom apartment and you have nowhere to put it). The season in which you are buying the stroller; whether you plan to use that same stroller or plan to buy an umbrella stroller when the baby starts to sit (they are only used in the summer). The weight of the stroller is important; it usually ranges from 6 to 20 kilograms for twin strollers.

It is also necessary to take into account:

  • wheels (plastic or rubber, size)
  • folding/unfolding system
  • size (do they fit in your trunk, storage room)
  • do they have additional accessories (bag, footmuff - protection from cold, protection from rain, sunshade, mosquito net, cup holder, basket - shopping bag)
  • material of which they are made (quality and safety, maintenance method)
  • backrest adjustability

Up to the age of 6 months, the baby must face the parents, to allow them to observe the baby and make eye contact, thus giving the baby an additional sense of security and protection.

Strollers must not have openings where babies can get their fingers stuck; they should be strong and stable. The roof protects the child from the sun, rain and wind, but it is good to have a window through which you can see the child.

In cold weather, beside stroller accessories, you must always cover the baby with an additional layer, because he/she does not move and feels much colder than the parents, who move and push the stroller.

Color, design, fashion details are the parents' choice, but they must not be the primary consideration in choosing a stroller. Trio systems that include a stroller and a car seat are cost-effective because the set often cost less than separate purchases. Always try the stroller in the store several times, to have a clearer idea when making a choice.

Incorrect position, inadequate size and the way of using the stroller negatively affect the baby's psychomotor development.
