Immunization of children in international travel
Children who travel internationally receive additional vaccines: a) if they travel to a country that requires a certain vaccination, in accordance with the International Health Regulations, or b) on the recommendation of the chosen pediatrician.
Body
In addition to the mandatory vaccines they receive in accordance with the applicable Immunization Schedule, children who travel internationally also receive vaccines required by the country they travel to or on the recommendation of a pediatrician or specialist in the relevant branch of medicine in accordance with the applicable Infectious Diseases Program.
Mandatory active immunization of passengers in international transport
- Children travelling internationally must be vaccinated if they travel to countries that require certain vaccinations, according to epidemiological indications, in accordance with the International Health Regulations and based on the World Health Organization recommendations.
- Vaccination is carried out in health care institutions designated by the Ministry of Health, and the authorized health care institution issues a certificate on the performed vaccination.
- Mandatory immunization of children is carried out against:
- yellow fever - children older than 9 months receive one dose of vaccine no later than 10 days before travel and receive lifelong protection
- meningococcal disease - children older than 9 months receive a conjugated polysaccharide quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine no later than 10 to 14 days before departure
- as well as against other infectious diseases as required by the country to which they travel.
Recommended active immunization of passengers in international traffic
- On the basis of assessment of the epidemiological situation of the country to which the child is traveling, a medical doctor or a specialist in another branch of medicine may recommend that your child receive other vaccines as well.
- The list of recommended vaccines is longer, but as your child receives certain vaccines as part of regular vaccinations, an additional recommendation may concern vaccines against the following diseases:
- typhoid fever - for children older than 2 years
- flu - for children older than 6 months
- chickenpox - for children older than 12 months.
The costs of immunization for your child, as a passenger in international traffic, are borne by you, the parents/guardians, because the child is immunized for travel purposes.
