Messages on the Belly

Materials You Need: Your mouth; Soft blanket; Soft surface.

What You Can Do Together: Babies begin to develop language and verbal ability long before saying their first words. With this game, you will help your little one achieve this process in an easy and fun way.

Before starting, you should prepare the space where you are going to play, this should be a closed place to prevent your baby from feeling cold. Make sure to play on a soft surface, such as a blanket, and check for dangerous objects in the area.

Take off her/his clothes and lay your baby on her/his back on the soft blanket. Kneel next to her/him and get the attention of your baby. To achieve this, you can talk to her/him, sing a song, make sounds and caress her/his tummy.

Now you should touch your baby's abdomen with your face lips and start to speak, sing, recite a poem or positive message that you want to tell her/him. Change the tone and volume of your voice as you talk. Every time you finish saying something, you can give her/him some kisses and caress her/his tummy.

Remember to smile and be calm when doing this activity. You can alter the activity by making different sounds with your mouth: clicking with the tongue, farting, buzzing, blowing or tickling are a good idea. Remember not to speak too loudly as not to scare your baby.

What Your Child is Learning: With this activity, your baby will increase knowledge of her/his body, develop language, improve social interaction and sensorimotor stimulation.
