Stimulation of motor activities in the second year

"The moment when a child gets to his feet and starts to walk on his own is one of the strongest experiences. He never seems to get tired. He gets up, sits down, walks sideways holding on to the furniture, lets himself stand, takes steps, goes down to the four-legged position again. He is constantly experimenting and doing it all the time with a smile and a new motivation to discover different possibilities of movement. "
Body

First independent steps

  • It is expected that a healthy child will start walking in the period between 18th and 20th month.
  • The first steps a child takes are on a broad basis. The feet are mostly apart and facing outwards.
  • The feet will always be positioned in a way that provides the body with the most stable position - do not try to correct the position of the feet.
  • Do not put shoes on the child for walking around the house - the shoe does not form an arch of the foot, it is rather strengthened through activity. It can happen that when a child puts on shoes and stands up on his feet stops, that he sits down immediately, because he does not understand the information coming from the surface.
  • During the period in which a child stabilizes its walk, the arms are generally raised high in order to maintain balance.
  • Very often, a child carries toys in each hand or one larger one, which gives him better stability when walking. When he drops a toy, he is sure to sit down.
  • Even after a child starts to walking, he will often use, on different surfaces, forms of bawling, crawling, because they help him get to what he wants faster and safer.

Further exploration of motor abilities

  • A child who is walking will be sure to raise his leg and try to climb the stairs, or pieces of furniture.
  • S/he plays for a long time in a squat.
  • S/he carries bottles, baskets, balls, mostly heavier things that give him a feeling of extra security.
  • S/he climbs the steps in a four-legged pattern and descends in the same way.
  • S/he shoots the ball, throws the ball, occasionally falls, but mostly does not lose balance.
  • S/he climbs on slides, climbers, crawls, likes to spin, or enjoy swings in the park.
  • S/he chooses to go uphill, downhill, on uneven terrain.
  • S/he spins in a circle, puts its head in different positions: down, to the side - this type of movement stimulates the vestibular system, excites the brain, the child rejoices, enjoys and further develops all its potentials.
  • S/he starts running.
  • S/he goes backwards and can sit on a low bench, a high chair, an armchair.

Motor development in the second year is characterized by learning patterns: walking, running, ball manipulation, mastering stairs, which in the third year will get a new expression in improving speed, dexterity and coordination.
