Thread it through

Materials You Need: Colander, pipe cleaners.  

What You Can Do Together: This activity is super-easy to set up - simply place a colander and a pile of pipe cleaners on a table or on the floor. Then demonstrate how to thread the pipe cleaners through the holes in the colander. Next step... get the kids to give it a go!* 

Encourage the kids to try different things. How many holes can they thread one pipe cleaner though? Can they create interesting shapes and colourful patterns? Or even a quirky sculpture?! 

(*Please be aware most pipe cleaners contain a metal wire. Adult supervision is advised.) 

For slightly older kids, see if they can thread, bend and link the pipe cleaners to make a flower, or even an animal! 

What Your Child is Learning: This sensory-play activity is a fantastic way for toddlers to develop their cognitive skills and fine motor skills. Furthermore, it gives little ones the opportunity to get creative as they put their hand-eye coordination to the test!
