Tune into the world
Materials You Need: None
What You Can Do Together: Head outside with your child and lie down or sit in a comfortable spot. Get them to close their eyes and simply listen – as if turning up the volume in their ears. Encourage them to let their other senses fade and focus on the sounds all around them – perhaps leaves rustling, birds chirping, voices or vehicles in the distance, the wind blowing. What different things can they hear?
The greater wax moth has the finest hearing in the world. Its ears are around 150 times more sensitive than human ears!
What Your Child is Learning: Using their senses to tune into the natural world makes children more aware of themselves and their surroundings. What’s more, taking the time to stop and give attention to the current moment can be comforting, relaxing and energising.
