Physical abuse of children
Examples of physical abuse are: slapping, hitting, kicking, shaking (mostly in infants), squeezing the neck, throwing, poisoning, burning, pouring hot liquid or immersing body parts in hot liquid, exposing the child to hot steam, tying the child, assault with a weapon, leaving a young child alone in the car, etc.
The most common form of physical abuse committed by adults is corporal punishment of a child as a disciplinary measure in "educating a child". Corporal punishment is very dangerous for children, it is a significant cause of death of children and a factor in encouraging violent behavior and other behavioral disorders in children.
How to recognize a child who has been physically abused?
Physical violence does not necessarily cause bodily harm to children, nor do injuries always have to be visible. If you notice bruises of different ages in a child (in unusual places such as the face, thighs, lower legs, back, abdomen, nape, etc.), burns, broken bones, cuts, scratches, split ends, torn hair, it may be a physically abused child. If a child is unusually cautious in contact with adults, over-satisfies adults, is shy, withdrawn or hyperactive, finds it difficult to establish relationships with peers, has poor social, cognitive and language skills, shows a tendency to solve problems with aggression, shows anger for no reason, it can indicate a physically abused child.
